If you have always loved fixing things, looking at engines, finding out how things work; then this would be a great job for you.
Main Purpose of Job:
You will be assisting in marine engineering for a company that specialises in Bespoke, high quality narrowboat manufacturing as well as luxury narrowboat hire.
Working alongside the marine engineer supervisor, and using your eye for detail, you will assist with the boat build process: engine installation & commissioning, plumbing & pipework, electrical wiring & systems, to the required high specifications. In addition, you will assist the team to complete less skilled areas of work such as hull painting, varnishing and cleaning to ensure the boat build timeline is met.
You will also help lead our hire boat team on our hire boat turnaround days during the season from March to October.
You will use your problem-solving skills & methodical thinking to assist with the repairs & maintenance of our fleet of hire boats that we attend to. Therefore a background of narrowboats will be an advantage.
This is a hands on role and often working in narrowboat engine bays. You must be self-motivated to learn many aspects of the job, although training will be provided as necessary.
You will have direct contact with our customers and therefore you must have good communication skills and be friendly and polite.
Finally, you will be using your team & organizational skills for all jobs, listening carefully to instructions, interpreting job sheets and applying your constantly increasing engineering knowledge, whilst vigilantly following all health and safety procedures.
For this position you will be expected have completed an NVQ 2 or 3 or equivalent in performing hands on engineering operations. You will already have gained a grade C or above in English and Maths GCSE. The ideal candidate will have experience in narrowboat engineering, although we will consider candidates with appropriate transferable skills.
This is a full time position, although we would also consider reduced hours or temporary/ flexible hours for an experienced candidate. Working schedule is Monday to Friday, November to February and Tuesday to Saturday during the hire season March to October.
